Types of Artificial Flowers

At Forever Yours, Flowers, our main passion is beautiful artificial flowers. With our previous post on why to choose artificial flowers we stated that in all our passion maybe some of the intricacies of artificial flowers gets lost. So this little blog is about the different types of artificial flowers.

When people say "fake flowers", there's often a curl of the lip, as artificial flowers can be cheap, plastic-y and smell funny. But at Forever Yours, Flowers, we make it a priority to use only high quality, realistic looking flowers. To us, an artificial flower isn't just a fake flower that's cheap and easy, there are so many details and aspects of an artificial bouquet. And when we say artificial flowers, we mean, all types of artificial flowers...

Real Touch Flowers

Real Touch Flowers are the answer to anyone that says an artificial flower does not look or feel real. These gorgeous flowers are made from polyether polyurethane (PU) foam. Creating Real Touch flowers is a computer controlled process. The PU foam is sprayed into a mould, injected with coloured paste and then sprayed and heated to ensure that it is colourfast.

The end result? Beautiful faux flowers that look and feel real!

Silk Flowers

There is a huge array of silk flowers on the market. At Forever Yours, Flowers we aim to use the best quality we can get! Meaning, we avoid flowers that feel stiff and unnatural. Or conversely, that are too soft and floppy. A good quality silk flower is somewhere in between these two extremes. It has body, but a smooth, clean texture.

A good silk flower also has less plastic than a cheap one. And the plastic that is used is often flocked (a term that basically means textured to look and feel natural with that little bit of fuzz that you find in nature).

While all silk flowers will fray if you give them a hard time, good quality silk will take a lot longer to wear. Unlike the cheap ones!

Leather Roses

Yes, leather! These are a specialty of Beryl, our resident textile artist. A creation of her very own, and very popular with a lot of our brides. Leather roses are perfect when you want to give a nod to tradition, but keep your personality very present on your big day.

After being painted by hand each rose needs to rest. In hot weather this can be as little as 5 minutes but it the colder months, you just wait.

People are fascinated by these tough little ladies. Handmade from scratch in our Melbourne studio, they are created with love... and a lot of work! The process involves dying, cutting and wiring, just to name a few steps!

For a bit more info on the in depth process that is these gorgeous leather roses, check out the little story that Beryl has put together.

HAND- PAINTED

Sometimes no matter how good the quality of the flowers that we get, the colour just isn't quite right. Or maybe you want something outside the natural looking? That is where our textile artist Beryl, really shines. She loves a challenge and will individually paint each flower to get just the right colour.

These tulips were painted in consultation with a bride, in fact, the bride came and helped Beryl paint them!
