What to wear under the dress?
You've shopped around, scoured bridal stores and magazines and have finally found the perfect dress. But with that perfect dress comes a whole range of undergarments - all of which come together to make a truly beautiful and graceful bride.
Your first thought may be that you want to wear something pretty, or sexy, after all, it is going to all lead up to your wedding night...
However, you are going to be in that dress for quite a few hours, and while sexy underwear looks fantastic with nothing covering it, you really want to go practical and as comfortable as possible for your big day.
Considering that, we've jotted down a few thoughts on what you should think about when buying your wedding underwear.
1. Sheath or Column Dress
Sleek and slender, these dresses are graceful and elegant. They are however, quite unforgiving when it comes to underwear lines. So whatever you do...
Go seamless!
You're gonna hate me for this, but shape-wear is your best bet with a beautiful but sheer dress. There are a lot of options on the market, but a good quality nude shape-wear under-bust slip is probably your best bet.
Did I mention nude?
Yes, you should also aim for the not so attractive out of the dress, nude! A dress like this can show up even the contrast of white against your skin. Don't chance it.
Strapless Dresses
Though wedding dresses are starting to move towards a more boho style, the strapless dress is a classic wedding staple. And with the strapless wedding dress comes the need for a good strapless bra.
If you have a smaller bust a simple and more comfortable option is getting soft cups sewn into your dress.
This way there's no underwire cutting in and no chance of your bra showing. Provided you've had your dress fitted correctly you'll be safe from any nip slips too!
Plunging Neckline
Cutting edge, and hard to wear a bra with!
For this look the easiest option is to get padded cups sewn in to the dress, but you can of course go the various types of stick on bras (more on them later!).
Your lingerie options depend on the depth of the plunge you'll be wearing. Some bras and corsets have a plunge shape. In this case of the beautiful bride to the left? It's sew ins or stick ons!
If You're Going Strapless or Plunging ...
consider an over-bust or cupped corset or a bustier. One of these can be the safest option. As long as you've properly supported your bust there will be no constantly rearranging and pulling your dress up when you're trying to enjoy your night.
There is also the waist trimming effect that a corset has if you'd rather not do shape-wear but really want to enjoy that wedding buffet!
Word to the wise? Not the most comfortable option! Many corsets have metal boning in them. After a 12 hour day in this... just make sure you've gotten used to it before the big day.
Backless Dress
A backless wedding gown is becoming a more and more popular option. And with a backless dress, comes the stick ons. There are a wide range of pasties, chicken fillets, nipple covers, and stick on bras available.
You can even get different kinds of stick on bras - adjustable, plunging... you get the idea! You can get these from all department stores, many fashion stores and they are widely available online. If you didn't bust these babies out for your high school grad, get familiar now!
Another option is to have some soft bust cups sewn into your dress, although, this is probably not the best bet for ladies that were blessed with an abundant bosom.
Which leads us to...
Form Fitting!
Body-con, mermaid, slinky... anything that hugs the torso! You probably know what I'm about to say... Nude shape-wear.
There is so much of this on the market, have a good look around and don't go too cheap! Keep in mind, you're doing a form fitting dress, so rock that bod! Your curves are a good thing in a dress like that.
You can even consider buying shape-wear that only cinches and flattens some areas, allowing for you to really show off your best assets (pun intended)!
Whatever you choose to wear on your wedding day...
make sure you're comfortable. I don't mean comfortable in body, because oftentimes, beauty and style are incredibly uncomfortable! I mean be comfortable in yourself. Be comfortable in the dress you wear.
You're about to marry someone who thinks the world of you, make sure you think the world of yourself!
