Rustic Table Decoration

Rustic Table Settings

Rustic, boho or shabby chic weddings are the new wedding sensation. It is very easy to pay a small fortune for professional wedding vendors to make it look like you've actually DIY-ed it. Here are some simple ways to actually DIY it (or some of it!).

Table setting, reception decoration, rustic

1. Timber

Strip it back to basics by embracing natural wood. Pallet furniture, farm style tables, picnic tables or just plain timber. A simple table setting, a couple of bud vases and you can be done. The beauty of a rustic setting is that Less is definitely more!

The pared back spread also allows for emphasis for the main feature of your wedding tables... the food!

2. Mason Jars

Centrepiece to every rustic wedding: the mason jar. These provincial throw backs are a simple way to decorate without excessive spending.

It is easy to pay a fortune for these in your local home-ware shop, so make sure you shop around. Your local $2 shop may have some, some vendors may hire them out or you can do a good online search.

Shop around so you don't pay the boho price-tag!

You can use a mason jar for both ceremony and reception decor. A few sprigs of babies breath, some fairy lights or a simple bunch of flowers all look gorgeous in a mason jar and are perfect for a rustic table setting.

3. Greenery

A touch of greenery with your timber table can look very striking. Think about palm fronds, moss table runners, succulent gardens or sprigs of rosemary. All add the perfect touch for a simple rustic wedding spread.

Some decorators even go for newly cut small branches. Basically anything with a bit (or a lot!) of greenery will give an instant country feel to your decor.

You can use burlap in small doses, instead of napkin rings

4. Burlap, hessian and browns

Nothing says country chic like a bit of hessian! You can use burlap in small doses, instead of napkin rings or as a ribbon trim for your vases. Or in large doses like a burlap placemats, table runners or even table cloths.

One of our favourite combos is burlap combined with white lace a gorgeous way to do rustic with elegance!

Shop around for these bits and pieces of hessian. Hessian is very fashionable at the moment so you may get lucky at Target or any number of online retailers.
