Choosing a Wedding Date

Things to consider when CHOOSING A WEDDING DATE!!!

Choosing a wedding date doesn't need to be complicated and it can actually be fun, choosing a date that you will celebrate for years to come.

There are so many factors to consider when setting a date for your special day. The weather and seasons, what you want to wear, family and travel… Just to name a few! We thought we’d put together a little list to make wedding planning just a little easier.

We’ve put together a list of a few things to keep in mind when setting the date for the big day!

I recently did a Facebook and Instagram live on choosing your day. If you want to jump across and listen here is a link to my broadcast. FACEBOOK

Here I have listed a few things that might help you with your decision.

Time off work

  • Are you & your fiancé able to get time off work
  • Have you left enough time to organise everything

Special Days

  • Do you & your family already have important commitments?
    • Up coming birthday … Grandmamma’s 90th
    • A birth in the family and you want them to be part of the celebrations
    • Are there any religious celebrations that must be adhered to?
  • Are there any specific dates in your calendar?
    • The day you met
    • A special birthday Father, Mother or a Grandmamma (Please spell Grandmamma with 2 m’s… in house family joke)

When things may be cheaper …

  • Having a weekday wedding is cheaper but not everyone may be able to make your special day.
    • Saturday is still the most popular day to get married but now due to expense couples are starting to choose other days. Friday is now coming a close 2nd.
  • Getting married in winter could reduce costs but some vendors or venues are only available at certain times of the year.
    • A beach wedding in the middle of winter could be really cold and you might have to supply a lot of heaters and blankets LOL!
    • You also need to bare in mind that most wedding dresses aren’t designed with warmth in mind!

Themed weddings

  • Themed weddings are becoming more and more popular but there are of course still a few things to think about:
      • If you want a Halloween wedding you have to get married on the 31st October and if that is a Wednesday, you have to get married on a Wednesday.
      • If you want a Fairies & Dragon wedding, maybe this would suit an Autumn (Fall) wedding

Venue

  • Do you want an indoors or outdoors wedding?
    • A garden or beach wedding can be absolutely spectacular, but is also very reliant on the weather. If you really dream of a Winter garden wedding be prepared to need contingencies!
    • Also, think about your dress… A trailing train is absolutely stunning, until it’s covered in mud!

Lead Time

  • How long do you want to be engaged for, the average length for an engagement is 18 months
    • Keep in mind people who need time to organise long distance travel – visas, hotels, plane tickets etc.
    • Your perfect venue may mean a long wait time, or having to settle for an unconventional wedding day choice (a Friday or Sunday for example).

Compromise

  • You will need to compromise
    • You always dreamed of a winter wedding and your fiancé always wanted to have a summer wedding
    • He wants a church wedding and you want a garden wedding
    • You want a formal wedding and your fiancé wants a casual wedding
    • You both want a destination wedding but your elderly Grandmamma and newly pregnant sister-in-law may not be up to that kind of travel

Do you want to share?

  • Finally remember if you get married on a major holiday like Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day you will be always be sharing your wedding anniversary with these holidays.

Happy Planning my Darlings! Have fun!
