Artificial Flowers and Your wedding cake
We recently had the pleasure of designing flowers to decorate a wedding cake for the beautiful bride Peta. It was such a fun and inspiring challenge and something we were so excited to do. It got us thinking about all of the ways you can decorate your wedding cake. For us it will always come back to flowers, so we thought we could take a look at artificial wedding flowers for your cake!
WHY Artificial Flowers?
Obviously we are biased, but artificial flowers really are a great option for decorating your wedding cake.
A few reasons why you should use artificial flowers for your wedding cake? Glad you asked!
ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS DON'T WILT
You can decorate your cake as early as you like because fake flowers preserve their shape and colour. Fresh flowers will need to be kept in a cool area prior to the wedding (usually the fridge). Fresh flowers are often not dropped off or picked up until the day of the wedding because of their storage needs. You will have none of these issues with artificial flowers because they do not require any special treatment before use. Like we said, fake flowers don't wilt!
FLOWER STORY
Because your beautiful artificial flowers are available all year round it also means that you can have a unified flower story throughout your wedding. It was such a joy to design and create this flower girl basket and floral wreath (pictured right) to go with Peta's cake!
ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS CAN BE BOUGHT DURING ANY SEASON
There is no problem with buying daffodils in Winter or Iris's in Summer. With fake flowers you can have your beautiful seasonal blooms, whatever the time of year!
Pictured right is a great example of having whatever flowers you want, no matter the season with hydrangeas, frangipanis and roses!
Food safe flowers
Many commercially grown fresh flowers are sprayed with pesticides and fertiliser so are not considered food safe. There are however a number of flowers that are deemed "safe"to put on your cake such as Pansies, Lavender, Violas, Violets, Roses, Marigold, Cornflower, Carnations, Chrysanthemums, Day Lily, Hibiscus, Peony, Chamomile, Freesia, Gerber Daisy, Primrose and Sunflowers. It is still wise to check with the florist how these flowers have been treated before putting them on something you're going to eat though!
Whatever you choose, we're sure it will be great!
Whether you choose artificial flowers for your cake, something nontraditional or cute or even decide not to have a cake, we're sure your wedding will be delicious and beautiful!
