4 Great things about a BackYard Wedding!
Weddings are a constantly evolving tradition. While many couples are opting for elaborate, formal extravaganzas, there are an increasing number of couples that are choosing less expensive, more casual types of weddings.
The backyard wedding is a great example of this. It also harks back to a time when the bride's parents would often cater and host the reception in their living room. Here are some points for the pro column if you're thinking about doing a backyard wedding.
The rest of the money depends on catering, decorations, music, sound system hire... But if you're going for a backyard feel? You can definitely DIY, or FDI (Friends Do It!) a lot of these factors.
2. Flexibility with date and planning
Popular wedding venues can often book up a couple of years in advance. The beauty of choosing to have a backyard wedding is that you've got your venue ready whenever you choose to have it (dependent on landscaping etc!). Of course, there are still certain factors to consider, a celebrant, caterers, furniture hire... but these factors become a lot easier to negotiate when the venue is sorted.
3. Invite who you like
A backyard wedding means you can have as many, or as few guests as you please. It also means that your furry friends can come along (without the added stress of pet chaperones)!
If you're going for an informal backyard BBQ, the number of guests you can have is limited only by how many people you can fit!
And of course, the opposite is true as well. A backyard wedding can be small and intimate, without treading on too many toes. It seems that with a backyard wedding, a lot of the obligation disappears.
People will happily go barefoot for the night and bring a picnic rug, they will just be honored to celebrate your wedding, however you want to celebrate it!
A backyard wedding is a very fun and personal way to celebrate your special day. If you're after something casual, but still intimate it is definitely a great option. For some more thoughts on wedding planning, check out our blog.
